| 10 of the world's most loved airports Posted: 17 Nov 2011 02:03 AM PST  Really? A small outpost on a remote island in Tierra del Fuego is the fifth most-loved airport in the world? Strange and subjective as this may seem, it all starts to make sense when you think about how little love there actually is for any airport in the world. Last week, we ran the 10 most hated airports and that was so much easier -- until guilt set in. And then confusion. Is it even possible -- let alone appropriate -- to love an airport? Maybe that's a subject beyond the scope of yet another illuminating Top 10 List, but the following inspired airports definitely deserve a little affection, at least.      |

| AsiaSpa Awards 2011: 25 winning experiences Posted: 16 Nov 2011 06:36 PM PST  AsiaSpa Magazine held its seventh annual AsiaSpa Awards last week at The Mira hotel in Hong Kong. The awards celebrated spas from all over the region for their excellence in spa experience, products and personalities in 25 categories. Spas from Bali, Indonesia, took home the most coveted awards, though names from Thailand and Hong Kong also won in multiple categories. The top honors of the night for Destination Spa of the Year went to Bali's Fivelements, while Bali also won the title of Asian Spa Capital of the Year.    |
| Gallery: Life among the dead -- Manila’s cemetery residents Posted: 16 Nov 2011 02:00 PM PST How thousands of Manila's poorest have made their home among the graves In the Filipino capital, the lack of adequate housing has forced many migrant settlers to seek out an unusual home -- the city's cemeteries. The biggest of these, North Cemetery, has become something of a living village. Mausoleums that house the bodies of the dead also act as family homes for the living. And as more people arrive in Manila from outside seeking work, and as more people die, the crunch for space is getting worse. Mario Pormales, 52, came to North Cemetery several years ago because it brought him closer to his work, as a gravestone mason and caretaker for the graves. He earns US$10 for each gravestone he marks, often earning up to US$150 in a week, good money for locals in Manila.    |
| Mee Phat Krachet: The best Thai dish you’ve never heard of Posted: 16 Nov 2011 01:55 PM PST  Take the thin rice strands known as "sen mee" and fry them in a wok with "phat krachet" -- pungent water mimosa -- and you have sen mee phat krachet, one of Thailand's most satisfying, but least-known noodle dishes. Often associated with seafood restaurants, mee phat krachet is usually served with rings of squid and fresh shrimp or prawns, although some restaurants also do a mixed version that includes slices of pork, or just straight pork or chicken versions. Providing the dish with a little bite, the noodles are typically studded with a coarse chili and garlic mixture and are seasoned with fish sauce.    |
| Posted: 16 Nov 2011 01:00 PM PST  今バンコクにいれば、洪水被害に遭う可能性が高い。 しかしこの場合の「洪水被害」とは、必ずしも水に浸かることだけではない。市の大半はまだ浸水していないのだ。むしろ、スーパーでお気に入りのビールを見つけられないとか、お目当てのイベントがキャンセルになってしまう、といった被害の方が多い。誰もお祝い気分ではないので仕方ないのかもしれないが。 もちろん酷い目にあっている人もいる。 家を離れ、市の中心部にアパートを借りた人もいれば、客足が途絶えたので店を閉めた者もいる。 洪水被害にあった9人の住民に話を聞いた。それぞれ様々なドラマがあるが、共通点もある。 不確定要素を抱えながらも生活していくために戦うことが、新たな「日常」になったということだ。 名前： ウオン 年齢： 30歳 職業：国立博物館の近くでバナナやサツマイモなどのフライチップを売る屋台の店主 洪水の影響： 「いつもの場所で売ることができません。洪水で大学が休校になり、お客さんがいないんです」と嘆くウォンさん。 「仕方なく、Sanghee橋の近くに移動しましたが、そこでもあまり売れません。ここなら人がいると思って来たのですが、皆、いなくなってしまった様子。材料費も高くつくようになってきました。 バナナの価格があがっているんです」

And as temperatures soar and visits to the beach with friends become more frequent, that perfection often includes a watering hole for a cold one. Australia must really be the lucky country.
