World’s most 'thrilling' airports, where thrilling = terrifying

Posted: 30 Jun 2011 02:08 AM PDT

With the help of an anonymous commercial pilot, Airfarewatchdog.com has compiled a list of the world's most "thrilling" airports

And they don't mean those that include bouncy castles and gambling machines.

From taking off over sheer mountain drops to landings that fly just feet over beachgoers, these airports could be the most memorable part of your trip.

Toncontín International Airport, Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Surrounded by mountains, the airport resembles a zigzag and pilots have to weave between the mountains as they land.

shanghai-beijing high-speed train -- main

Although the Shanghai-Beijing high-speed rail line (京沪高铁) won't open to the public until July 1, launch ceremonies will be held today in Beijing South Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station.

Following the ceremonies, two high-speed trains will set off on their first official runs.

The new rail link will trim the journey time between Shanghai and Beijing –- China's two most important cities -– to less than five hours.

Manchester United won the Barclays Premier League for the 19th time last month.

As part of a 12-day "Champions Trophy Tour" of Asia, the Red Devils held a cocktail party in Shanghai on June 29 at their official sponsor Hublot's downtown boutique.

Although surprised not to see an actual trophy on display for the "trophy tour," Shanghai fans were thrilled to see Manchester United's star Patrice Evra.

IIFA Awards: Shah Rukh Khan's 5 best moments

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 08:00 PM PDT

The International Indian Film Academy Awards or IIFA Awards which took place in Toronto, Canada last weekend, are neither the Indian Oscars nor a complete representation of Indian cinema.

They are simply the best of what Bollywood has to offer and the ones which have helped attract foreign funds into the industry.

IIFA overrides the critically acclaimed National Awards for acting and panders to Bollywood's best, but also worst values like sycophancy, nepotism and actors' delusions of eternal youth.

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 05:00 PM PDT

1. Goong Ten

"Goong Ten"

2. Larb Leuat Neua

6 things mainlanders like to do in Hong Kong

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 03:00 PM PDT

Since Hong Kong returned to China on July 1, 1997 Hongkongers have gradually become indifferent, if not exactly welcoming, to the burgeoning number of mainland visitors and immigrants in Hong Kong, who have contributed so much to the city's GDP.

Mainlanders have long been regarded as Hong Kong's favorite customers. They arrive in groups with empty suitcases and extended shopping lists. They go home with too many shopping bags to carry, maxed-out credit cards and a bunch of new Gucci, Prada and LV items.

Worth the ride: 5 outta town Bangkok nightspots

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 02:55 PM PDT

For every 10 Bangkokians unenthusiastic about a night out on Khao San Road or Thonglor, there's an even pickier one carping about how Lat Phrao hipster hangout "Parking Toys" is played out now that the expats have discovered it.

For this more -- shall we say "discerning" -- reader, here are five unspoiled neighborhoods outside the city center for you to go out and, let's face it, spoil. Grab a taxi and head over before anyone else does.

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 02:00 PM PDT

Newsweek Japan
