Google launches new flight search tool

Posted: 13 Sep 2011 09:58 PM PDT

Google unveiled a flight search engine yesterday, making it a direct rival to existing travel booking sites.

Now, people searching for flight information (for instance, flights from San Francisco to New York) on Google will see a "Flights" link in the left-hand panel. The link leads to the new flight search page. That page can also be accessed directly at google.com/flights.

Once on the search results page, users will see a page of flight options from different carriers, along with prices, flight times and return flight information.

CNNGo TV: Hanging out in Ulaanbaatar

Posted: 13 Sep 2011 07:04 PM PDT

It's not exactly New York or London. And it's a far cry from Shanghai or Tokyo as well. But Ulaanbaatar is certainly one of the more unique stops CNNGO has made over the past 18 months.

These days - with Mongolia in the midst of a mining boom - the country's capital is littered with construction cranes ... hotels are booked ... and flights in or out are chocked full. (Obviously in the dead of winter when daily high temperatures still sit well below zero degrees Celsius, it would certainly be a very different picture)

Here's a run through of the sites and places we hit in our week-long dash through Ulaanbaatar:

Qantas

It's still more than a year away from launching, but Qantas is already searching for names for its new Asian subsidiary.

The new Qantas brand will likely be based in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur from late 2012, but will focus on the Chinese executive market.

Fairfax Media reported that intellectual property lawyers are currently trying to trademark the names Red Q or Red Q Express.

Red Sky and One Asia have also been bandied around for the airline, which is aiming to operate a fleet of 24 Airbus A320s within a few years.

Posted: 13 Sep 2011 03:00 PM PDT

Kampung Baru: The foodie village in the middle of Kuala Lumpur

Posted: 13 Sep 2011 03:00 PM PDT

Kampung Baru

In a small corner of downtown Kuala Lumpur, a slice of village life still exists among the growing metropolis that is Malaysia's capital.

It is a rare survivor of the almighty wrecking ball, swung by those in charge of urban redevelopment.

Kampung Baru, or "new village," has been populated since the 1880s and today has become an amalgamation of seven villages over a 100-hectare area downtown.

Officially listed as a Malay Agricultural Settlement by the British in 1900, Kampung Baru was first established as a pastoral community to attract rural Malays into Kuala Lumpur.

ShenzhenParty.com
