| Shanghai calls dibs on British Airways next-generation cabin Posted: 09 Sep 2011 06:51 PM PDT  With China leading the world's luxury consumption, airlines are upping their game. Shanghai passengers are now among the first in the world to enjoy British Airways' (BA) new first class. The British flag-carrier rolled out its swanky next-generation cabin on flights between Shanghai Pudong Airport and London Heathrow just this month. The new facilities are featured on Boeing 777 aircraft flying from Shanghai six times a week (daily except for Wednesday).      |

The truth, it appears, is that there's something of a national divide, with tourism in the east and northeast of the country understandably struggling to overcome the negative images of tsunami devastation and nuclear leaks.
Meanwhile, the western part of the nation -- particularly Kyushu and Kansai -- seems to be returning to something approaching normal, at least in terms of visitor numbers.    |
