| Daegu IAAF World Athletics Championships in pictures Posted: 01 Sep 2011 11:51 PM PDT The coolest photographic roundup of the world's best athletes competing this week The 13th International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Daegu is coming to a close this weekend, marking the end of another round of crazed sports fever, and Daegu's brief tenure as Korea's hottest travel destination. Some 7,000 athletes, family members and foreign media flew in just for the championships, in addition to 34,000 foreign spectators, according to local committee organizers. And as with all athletics championships, expectations were at boiling point and drama has been rampant each day. Here are some of the best athletes on the planet, at their finest.

| China's new aerobatics teams take to the skies Posted: 01 Sep 2011 07:14 PM PDT "Red Eagle" and "Sky Wing" amaze spectators with stunning spins, flips and dives China's two new dedicated aerobatics teams -- "Red Eagle" (红鹰, aka "Red Falcon") and "Sky Wing" (天之翼) -- took to the sky in their first official demonstration at the aerospace open day above Changchun's Da Fang Shen Airport yesterday. "Red Eagle" flew K-8 training aircraft while "Sky Wing" pilots put PT-6 primary trainers through their daring paces. Established in March 2011, these are the first aerobatic teams to be set up in China since 1962 when the Ba Yi demonstration team took wing.    |
