| Australia vs. the cane toad: Fair fight? Posted: 09 Jun 2011 02:37 AM PDT  A plague of cane toads -- the Godzilla of the amphibian world -- is overrunning Australia. Breeding faster than rabbits, impervious to predators, the cane toads are gradually making their way south and west across the continent. And Australians seem powerless to stop them. The cane toad -- "Bufo marinus" -- was introduced to Australia in 1935 to keep down pests. It can locate food by smell, shrug off water loss and migrate 85 kilometers during a wet season. As drought-breaking rains have smothered the continent, the toads have gone forth and multiplied. And multiplied again. And again.    |

Yesterday afternoon Google quietly announced on Twitter the launch of its own version, the YouTube Box Office.    |

That's more likely than ever, thanks to one Japanese inventor's robot-in-a-tin creation, the cunningly named CanBot -- a stunning mashup of drinking and hardcore geekery. Plain sightWhile we don't know the name of the gentleman in question, we can establish that he's something of a whizz with DIY robotics that can conceal themselves as everyday objects.    |

| Posted: 08 Jun 2011 05:02 PM PDT  I love going to the cinema. If I'm passionate about a movie, I'll go see it twice. After all, that is the best way for the audience to show support. Vote with your bums -- buy a ticket and add to the movie's box office gross. Recently there were some really great Hong Kong-made low-budget movies. Take "Echoes of the Rainbow" in 2010 as a stellar example. The Berlin Film Festival awardee became a critical and commercial success, garnering HK$23 million at the box office. It was financed by the Hong Kong Film Development Fund and considered a triumph of good filmmaking over investment capital.    |

Such is the attention Suhyun Kim's blog (blog.naver.com/haruna85) attracts with its make-up and skincare product reviews. "I have always loved make-up and thought, 'I will just try it,'" says Kim, 27, reminiscing about how she got into blogging. "You see, I was a college student on vacation without much to do back home in a small city."    |
