| The world's best airline for 2012 is ... Posted: 13 Jul 2012 12:15 AM PDT by Hiufu Wong Qatar Airways has flown away with the title of World's Best Airline for the second consecutive year. It took the Airline of the Year prize in Skytrax's annual World Airline Awards, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow in England. South Korea's Asiana Airlines and Singapore Airlines followed in second and third place. Air New Zealand and Qantas Airways fell out of the top 10 -- spots they won last year -- while ANA All Nippon Airways and Malaysia Airlines made their top 10 debuts. The top 10 was dominated by airlines from Asia and the Middle East. read more    |

Authored by Robert Koehler, the editor-in-chief of monthly travel magazine SEOUL, the books clocks in at 752 pages and looks and weighs more like a brick. While the book doesn't necessarily make for the most exciting read (we would have loved some quirky/crazy personal stories featuring these destinations as settings), the 1,000-plus photographs are amazing, and the book is certainly crammed with historical and practical information. The costs and times of transportation are particularly useful, as are the accommodation recommendations per region. We picked a selection of our favorite photos and destinations from the guide. read more    |

If you ever wanted to know what it's like to live like a celebrity designer, Hong Kong's Hotel ICON can now provide that experience. At least in a little way. The hotel has transplanted items from Vivienne Tam's home in New York City into its new Designer Suite. The new suite, launched last month, is a collaboration between Tam, an alumnus of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Hotel ICON, owned by PolyU as a teaching and research hotel. read more    |

| Generation T: Travel redefines Chinese women Posted: 12 Jul 2012 09:30 AM PDT by Tracy You Stephanie Feng's (冯佳艺) first job as a passenger photographer took her aboard the 90,000-ton cruise liner Serenade of the Seas. It's not a normal job for a journalism graduate but Feng reckons her six months' working around the eastern Caribbean was a life-defining experience. "I watched 'Where the hell is Matt?' in 2008 and my friends were joking that we could make a 'Where the hell is Stephanie?' video, and that's what got me into applying for the position," explains the 28-year-old graduate of Newcastle University in England, who was born to a traditional Shanghainese family. "The trip completely changed the angle I viewed the world with. I became more curious about the unknown and I came to realize that traveling is the most important hobby in my life."
Feng, who has traveled to Germany, Thailand and 17 other countries, is typical of "Generation T" -- 20- and 30-something Chinese women whose life values are shifting away from their mothers' and grandmothers' (who may well have never ventured beyond the confines of their home town) thanks to the opportunities of outbound travel. read more    |
