Let's backtrack to Wednesday evening when the Twitter hashtag #mumbaiblasts started trending in the wake of the terrorist bomb attacks.

Three tweets carried cell phone numbers offering pick-ups to anyone stranded at the blast sites in Dadar, Zaveri Bazaar and Opera House.

As soon as the government brought the word "terror" into play -- due to the coordinated nature of the attacks and the type of explosives used -- cellphone numbers of police control rooms popped up on the #mumbaiblasts feed.

History repeating: Survey pegs Tokyo as most expensive Asian city

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 11:32 PM PDT

Another day, another survey about the most expensive cities in which to live the expat life. This time it's U.S.-based human resources consultant Mercer counting the beans, stacking the wads and spiking the receipts.

Setting aside the conceit of why exactly these mysterious "expat" creatures need a different system for weighing the price of eggs than the rest of us do, Mercer's "Worldwide Cost of Living survey 2011" contains few surprises.

As you were, Japan

No gold stars for guessing that Tokyo comes out top in Asia, nor that it's joined by Osaka at number six and Nagoya at number 11 in the global rankings.

Coolest skateboard designs you'll probably ever see

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 06:57 PM PDT

It doesn't take a pro skateboarder to truly appreciate a
good skate deck design, but since not every skater can do an ollie airwalk like Tony Hawk, designs on
skate decks often go unnoticed.

That is especially true in China, where skateboarding is
still a niche pastime. Fortunately, a board sports enthusiast, Miriam Deller, came
up with the idea of exhibiting skateboard art at the annual Challenge Skateboards
Skate Deck Art (SDA) in various cities across the country.

Deller, founder and organizer of SDA, says she wants to
show the beauty of board sports, and in particular skateboarding to a wider
audience, an audience that might have never encountered the skate culture.

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 05:02 PM PDT

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 05:00 PM PDT

Seoul's Sunday Filipino Market serves pork adobo and gossip

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 02:57 PM PDT

While much of Seoul shops at department stores or E-Mart on weekends, those looking for a more unusual culinary expedition have begun to discover the Sunday Filipino market in Jongno.

Featuring Filipino fare from duck fetuses and pork adobo to fresh coconut drinks, the open-air market has grown over the past decade as the number of Filipinos living in Korea has steadily increased.

Currently there are more than 7,000 Filipinos living in Korea; many of these homesick expats seek out the market for familiar food and company.

Sauces and spice

For those interested in cooking Filipino food at home, the market stocks basic condiments and spices.
