Most eyes will be on the track from September 21-23, but when the engines turn off the city turns into one giant party. Any given Singapore bar is going to be airing the races on big screens or serving up cleverly named race-themed cocktails. For those who want to rub elbows with the city's beautiful people -- literally, the bars will be packed -- here's a roundup of the top Formula 1 events going on this weekend in Singapore. The prices of 122 goods and services were compared amongst 72 cities in 58 countries for the survey of the most expensive places in the world, released September 14. See the full report here. Although Oslo is the most expensive place to live, its residents are not necessarily rich. The city only ranks fourth when it comes to average wages and purchasing power. Zurich is the highest ranked in consumer purchasing power, followed by Sydney and Luxembourg, which means the net hourly wage in these cities can buy the most goods and services. "A worker in Zurich can buy an iPhone after working for 22 hours," UBS reported. "In Manila it takes around 20 times more." read more    |

I got my chance at one section of it recently with a small group tour over 21 days, organized by Sundowners Overland. The Trans-Mongolian journey is particularly gratifying, but the whole journey is one of those rarities in the travel world -- an event that lived up to the hype.
