The shame and embarrassment associated with a small penis makes most men lose their self confidence drastically. Since virility is also associated with the size of the penis, the situations gets worse still. This is why most men who feel they have a small penis are constantly on the lookout for ways to add inches to it. Right from penis pumps to penile implants there are several options. One such option is surgical enhancement. Let's learn more about the procedure. First and foremost, it is important to understand that simply having a small penis is not indication that you require penile surgery. The options should be exercised in cases where one suffers from bladder exstrophy, Peyronie's disease, epispadias, hypospadias and Micropenis. Those who have suffered trauma in the region due to an accident can also consider undergoing penile enhancement surgery. There are also certain penile infections that require penile enhancement surgery. However, just having a penis that is below the average size does not qualify for such a surgery. Keep in mind that penile enhancement surgery does have its fair share of side effects. Worse still getting a larger penis by adopting this method will not help in increasing sexual performance. So the exercise may end up as a waste of time and money. A look into the various penis enhancement procedures and their complications- • Re-fixation of suspensory ligament – Here the ligament that suspends the penis is removed and some extra skin from the abdomen is attached to it. The ligament is then re-attached to its original place. The added skin makes the penis look longer. In most cases, such a penis becomes unstable especially when erect and worse still can rest at odd angles. Needless to say, this can be quite embarrassing. • Lipectomy or liposuction of prepubic fat – Here the extra fat is sucked out of the pubic area and injected in to the penis. This works to make the penis look bigger. However, this procedure often leads to increased bleeding, loss of skin sensation and even infections. The worst is that the body often tends to re-absorb the fat and this makes the penis look disfigured and ugly. • Skin Flap Reconstruction – Here small pieces of skin is taken from the pubic area and re- attached to the length of the penis. This often leads to hair growth on the re-attached skin and worse still scarring, which often tends to make the penis look even smaller. • Penile implants and gels – There are surgeries where gels are injected into the penis or sometimes inflatable devices are planted in the penis. Rejection of the implants and infection are two most common problems that can occur in this case. As is clear now almost all penile enhancement surgeries seem to come with their drawback. Right from infection, graft rejection, excessive bleeding, scars and even delayed healing, anything can affect the patient. More over the psychological stress and the economical burden of these surgeries is not much desired either. The worst part of these surgeries is that the 1 to 2 inch gain that the procedure does boast of, is only in the flaccid state of the penis. Once erect the penis will look the same as before. To conclude, it would be right to say that while such procedures can help those with birth defect, they are not worth the risk for those who simply have a small penis. Natural and safe methods of increasing penis size are any day better than these dangerous surgical options.
