Yabba dabba doo! A Thai resort that lets you sleep in Fred Flintstone’s head Posted: 18 Dec 2011 10:55 PM PST In the mountains of Ratchaburi, Suan Peung Resort takes guests on a journey back to Bedrock Nobody tell Hanna-Barbera, but a resort in Thailand's lovely Ratchaburi province gives travelers a chance to sleep inside "villas" shaped like Flintstones characters. About two-and-a-half hours' drive southwest of Bangkok, Suan Peung Resort is modeled after the prehistoric cartoon town of Bedrock, home to the characters of "The Flintstones" cartoon. Guests can stay inside buildings shaped like Fred, Wilma, Barney, Betty and Dino. There's also a "stone house," a rock house and some smaller cabins made out of teak. Suan Pheung Resort even has a "Bamm Bamm" restaurant, though unfortunately there aren't any brontosaurus burgers on the menu. Just Thai fare and drinks. |
Best art galleries in Hong Kong Posted: 18 Dec 2011 09:15 PM PST Hong Kongers are a tough crowd. Every second person I meet protests that we have no real art scene and pronounces the city barren of creativity. But, come on. In recent years, the Hong Kong gallery scene has evolved significantly. Dealers are bringing in big name artists like Damien Hirst and Zhang Huan for solo shows. Alternative spaces devoted to new media and subculture art have cropped up. A slew of international dealers such as Larry Gagosian, Ben Brown and Sundaram Tagore have opened outposts. Famed London gallery White Cube has a space under renovation and rumor has it that Marlborough and Pace Gallery are next. |

Old Delhi's best eats: 10 tasters under US$10 Posted: 18 Dec 2011 02:00 PM PST The streets of old Delhi are a maelstrom of activity, and one of the most important narratives is the one concerning food. I've walked these lanes with my friends from the nearby Delhi University, eating parathas while they collected costume supplies for the Shakespeare Society from their most trusted vendor. I've walked these by-lanes with my grandmother who insisted the best jalebi was on a particular corner, and with my grandfather who insisted the best chai was on another. When I re-visit it this time I have a mission to dispel and to reaffirm -- in the steam of the best chai and the oil of the best puris -- the traditional eating advice for old Delhi. Travel guides are so dusty on the subject you could lose your appetite. |
2010年,他們發行了第二張專輯《The Start of Us》(在他們的網站試聽),由鍵盤手Gideon So和創作歌手Joshua Wong領軍。 |
Puey Quiñones: The designer the Philippines loves to hate Posted: 18 Dec 2011 02:00 PM PST After the "re-tagging scandal" Quiñones stages a comeback with a show put on by some of the country's most dangerous criminals "Puey Quiñones: cheat, thief, liar, embezzler, fraudster," tweets one Puey Quinones hater just a week before Project Bilibid Runway 3 is mounted on November 7, 2011. It's the third year the designer has hosted his fashion show competition at the New Bilibid maximum security prison in Muntinlupa City, a city in southern Metro Manila. Since 2007 he has been teaching male prisoners convicted of rape, murder and kidnap how to create gowns and accessories to be worn on the runway by professional models; his contribution to National Correctional Consciousness Week. This year cash prizes of P10,000 (USD$227) and sewing machines have been put up for each category winner. |
Posted: 18 Dec 2011 01:57 PM PST As one of the earliest Chinese ports opened to international trading, Shanghai enjoys a rich combination of religious heritage. The city is home to more than 160 churches, scattered between modern highways and towering skyscrapers. Follow these five churches to trace Shanghai's religious past or join one of them to celebrate the upcoming Christmas. In accordance with Chinese government regulations, most English services at Shanghai's churches are open to foreign passport holders or foreign residence permit holders only. Chinese nationals are welcome to attend special Chinese services, but it's best to double-check with each church. |
Top Tokyo spots for Christmas dinner Posted: 18 Dec 2011 01:55 PM PST Ask any random nipper from the West and they'll tell you with bells on that Christmas is a family time -- shift the question to Japan and they'll have a much harder time pinning it down. That's because the festive season in Asia is, almost exclusively, one of romance, dating and being together with a significant other. Being single on Christmas Eve -- the peak of the amorous vacation -- is about as desirable as pouring o-cha from a chocolate teapot. Naturally, the highlight of any romantic Yule is a carefully chosen (often, booked months in advance) Christmas dinner -- which is where we come in. |
