Security, excitement build ahead of HK Apple store opening Posted: 21 Sep 2011 04:57 AM PDT Security personnel are already in place at Hong Kong's IFC mall more than 48 hours ahead of the official opening of the city's first Apple store this Saturday. |
Fry me kangaroo brown, sport! Aussies tucking into more native animals Posted: 21 Sep 2011 04:01 AM PDT Wild boar, rabbit, goat and venison may rank as alternative foods for carnivores around the world, but a slowly growing industry in Australia is taking to lesser-known native animals. Australian farmers are reporting an increased demand for local game supplies as they make their way onto restaurant menus -- particularly in Melbourne. Pubs are beginning to order game meat for their bistros. Philosophically, consumers are taking to game due to its environmentally-friendly, methane-free qualities. |
Posted: 21 Sep 2011 02:12 AM PDT AirAsia (www.airasia.com) understands the old adage that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Its 10th birthday "Free Seats" promotion -- running from September 21-25 -- to destinations such as Langkawi (Malaysia), Singapore, Banda Aceh (Indonesia) and Hat Yai (Thailand), valid for travel between May 3 and Oct 27, 2012, while generous, isn't fully gratis. Extras such as fuel surcharges, seat choice, luggage and taxes still have to be borne by the passenger. More on CNNGo: AirAsia and Expedia offer steep travel discounts |
Golf tourism in Thailand set to rise Posted: 20 Sep 2011 10:24 PM PDT If the Tourism Authority of Thailand's (TAT) projections are accurate, the country's golf courses can expect to welcome up to 600,000 foreign golf tourists in 2012. Travel website eTurbonews.com reports the value of foreign golf tourism to Thailand may reach 60 billion baht next year for the first time, with the bulk coming from Australia and Europe. That number accounts for three percent of the total 19 million inbound visitors forecast next year. |

Book Diwali flights now, you're already late Posted: 20 Sep 2011 07:00 PM PDT A month before the festival season, domestic airfares in India have shot up by 25 percent around the Diwali (October 25-26) holidays. "One can easily plan a return trip to Jaipur or Delhi for Rs 5,000 on other occasions,'' said a Fort-based travel agent. "However, due to festival rush and heavy bookings, the fares will only go up now. We are expecting fares from Mumbai to climb up by at least 50 percent in the next two weeks." |
