Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Backstreet Boys blacklisted in China Posted: 26 Aug 2011 09:15 PM PDT So what were the Backstreet Boys really suggesting when they crooned "I want it that way?" The Chinese Ministry of Culture made an announcement on August 19 to blacklist "poor taste" and "vulgar" pop songs from the country. Titles from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Backstreet Boys were on the list. The blacklist consists of 100 songs by Chinese and foreign singers or groups, most of them from the Taiwan region, Japan and other East Asian countries, such as A-Mei (张惠妹), Yoga Lin (林宥嘉), JAM HSIAO (肖敬腾), Kuraki Mai and Ken Hirai. The Western lineup also includes Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce and Take That. |
