Australia's jump in kangaroo attacks Posted: 25 Jul 2011 06:00 PM PDT After years of ritualistic culling and their methane-free meat being served up for lunch and dinner around the country, it seems the kangaroo is fighting back. In the latest outback attack, the world's largest marsupial went for a 94-year-old mammal. Phyllis Johnson was hanging out her washing in her Charleville backyard, 758 kilometers west of Brisbane, when she had an unexpected guest. A big red kangaroo bounded over her fence, into her backyard, ploughed through clothes and made a bee-line straight for the old woman. |

Definitive guide to New Delhi's Hauz Khas Village Posted: 25 Jul 2011 02:58 PM PDT The streets are crumbling and the wires overhead are irreversibly tangled. New Delhi's Hauz Khas Village (HKV) was, literally, a village that first hosted a madrassa and later grew into a residential complex for muslims, jats and harijans, displaced by Feroz Shah, to re-inhabit. Designer Bina Ramani opened one of the city's first independent fashion boutique here decades ago on account of its authentic village atmosphere. By the late 1980s, Hauz Khas Village had a manicured park, more than 40 designer stores and a few restaurants that catered to a foreign clientele. Owners set up the Creative Arts Village Association, hoping to work together for the improvement of village conditions. |
