It's never wise to confuse the character of an artist with that of his work, but sometimes you just can't help it. So it's a bit of a surprise that David Lachapelle's personality doesn't match that of his photos.

Anyone who has seen the work of the 47-year-old photographer might expect him to be as brash and sensational as the images he creates. Instead, he is remarkably humble and soft-spoken.

Melanie Ham wanted to restore her 1937 lane house back to its original art deco grandeur -- right down to the doorknobs.

Only when she set out to find just the right set of vintage knobs, she learned an important lesson about renovating in Shanghai.

"All the old doorknobs in China are fake," says Ham. "I learned the hard way. I bought one and it was made of concrete, with a phoney patina."

中國人民解放軍總參謀長陳炳德與香港商報做訪問時指，歡迎香港人也報考解放軍。南華早報就報導，這是首次一位高職位的中方官員與媒體提出徵募港人入伍。

陳炳德是中央軍委委員，他說只要政府能解決法律程序上的問題，那香港人參軍也是沒有問題的。但是現階段，內地的中國兵役法如何能應用於香港特別行政區身上還是未知之素。兵役法或能會拌入香港基本法之中，又或者重新釋法讓香港人、澳門人，甚至台灣人能加入解放軍。

Hotel rooms of the future will allow guests to have virtual sex, manage the contents of their dreams, and check emails with contact lenses, claims a study jointly conducted by Travelodge and a futurologist.

都内のリアル・ニューヨークバー

新ルール： パークハイアット東京のニューヨークバーについて、話したり、記事にしたりすることがあれば、お馴染みの映画について触れてはいけない。8 年前にリリースされたにも関わらず、耳にタコができるほど語られ続けているあの作品だ。

ここでは、「あの映画」とは関係のない、ニューヨークバーの魅力について紹介したい。パークハイアット東京に、 4 人のトップミクソロジストがアメリカから来日する。つまり、6 日間、同ホテルのニューヨークバーが本物のニューヨークバーに早変わりするのだ。

Toby Maloney 氏、 Jason Cott 氏、 Joaquín Simó 氏、 Troy Sidle 氏は、Death + Company、Milk & Honey、Flatiron Lounge、 Pegu Club、The Counting Room といったニューヨークの有名バーのミクソロジスト。なかには聞きなれない店舗もあるかもしれないが、ニューヨーカーであれば知らぬ者などいない超有名店である。

お酒に夢中

「今どきのニューヨークのバーの雰囲気をお見せできればと思います。」と Maloney 氏は話す。

そんな彼らにとっては、非常に良いスタートと言えるのであろう。 現在、ニューヨークのバーでは、実際の勤め先とは違う場所で、バーテンダー達がドリンクを提供するゲストナイトが流行っている…とは言っても、勤務先から 1 万キロメートルも離れた場所までゲストバーテンダーとして訪れることはまずないのだが。
